Helo,

in
3. And what if I want the old naming back?
is written:
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-net.rules seems necessary to override
/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-net.rules

According to my experience, the text should be changed to:
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules has to describe the naming rule according to this example:
SUBSYSTEM==”net”, ACTION==”add”, DRIVERS==”?*”, ATTR{address}==”00:00:00:00:00:00″, ATTR{type}==”1″, KERNEL==”eth0″, NAME=”eth0″
where ATTR{adress} is the HWADDR of the network interface.

Static assignment: GATEWAY has to be configured in /etc/sysconfig/network
