  • Unfortunately that doesn’t work as the requisite file
(/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js) doesn’t actually exist in CentOS 7 – it’s for an older version of gnome-shell.

The way to do it is to use the shell extension “nohotcorners” – but the OP doesn’t want to use that and has various other criteria that need to be satisfied.

  • Thanks For the Answer Mike and Pete. But Mike, In CentOS 7 this directory (/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js)
    doesn’t exist. Another Solution?. :)

  • Yes Andrea,

I’ve already used this extension. But I need to disable the active hot left top corner from the command line.

Because I work with a computer that does not have a mouse. I have already installed the application and after a while it is deactivated and I have to reactivate it with the mouse. So I need to do it with another way to be permanent and from the command line. Thanks :P

    Thiss one ?

    https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/118/no-topleft-hot-corner/

Running here, on gnome 3.22 /3.24

  • Raymundo has said multiple times that he doesn’t want/can’t use Gnome Shell extensions and that he needs a command line method for doing it –
so it’s not much use to keep throwing different shell extensions at him!

I think though that he needs to explain why he can’t use a shell extension as there might be another way of doing what he needs.

  • Usage: gnome-shell-extension-tool [options]

    Options:
-h, –help show this help message and exit
    -d DISABLE, –disable-extension=DISABLE
    Disable a GNOME Shell extension
    -e ENABLE, –enable-extension=ENABLE
    Enable a GNOME Shell extension
    -c, –create-extension

  • I already used this option before and it did not work. The corner is still active. :(

  • It works here

    ]$ gnome-shell-extension-tool -e nohotcorner@azuri.free.fr
    ‘nohotcorner@azuri.free.fr’ is now enabled.
    [andy@randy extensions]$ gnome-shell-extension-tool -d nohotcorner@azuri.free.fr
    ‘nohotcorner@azuri.free.fr’ is now disabled.

I works right of the box copy got zip from git

    https://github.com/Edenhofer/Minimalism-Gnome-Shell

    cp -r nohotcorner@azuri.free.fr
    $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions

    F2 + r to restart shell

and then i was on the way …..

Try it out my self now.

  • Hello Andy. Yes it work. But if i pass the mouse many times insistently in the left corner this function is activated again. I make this, because the computer is for others final users and i need to make sure that it works. You know how are the final user. Thanks!

  • Ok, then it is little bit more complecated.

    css code moved into library.

This are the final steps (incomplete because of time)

    1. enable gnome user theme (gnome-shell themes !)
    2. clone css resources over web or source cocde 3.14 into
    .$HOME/.theme/gnome-shell
    3. follow this post https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/196541/rem ove-disable-hot-corner -> third answer. For normal css and dark.

Hm should work ….I will put my laptop on the table…

  • Hello Andy, about your css answer i read the post:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/196541/remove-disable-hot-corner and the third answer is about an old gnome-shell:

    awk ‘/this._corner = new Clutter.Rectangle/,/ });/ { sub(/reactive: true/,
    “reactive: false”);} { print }’ /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js >
    /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js.tmp; mv
    /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js
    /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js.orig; mv
    /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js.tmp
    /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js

This won’t work for newer versions of gnome-shell because the directory /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js doesn’t exist. Thanks Andy.
