#Yes – I am aware that it’s not in this output, this is because we opted out of snort chkconfig because I had read posts that snort can not be configured to autostart in the conventional and usual fashion on CentOS/RHEL,

I have tried to implement snort startup on boot via rc.local as well (See below).

#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don’t
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

touch /var/lock/subsys/local
/prod/snort/bin/snort -D -u snort -g snort -c /prod/snort/etc/snort.conf -i eth0

This does not do the trick either so I am out of answers and this point and defering to the community.
